As with ultrasonic plastic welding and spin welding, ultrasonic spot welding joins together similar thermoplastic components without damaging their structure. The welding tip vibrates ultrasonically when passing through the materials, producing frictional heat as well as a void through which the melted plastic can flow between the parts, thereby fusing them together.

Ultrasonic welding can generally produce a strong, durable weld in less than one second. Molded joints, screws, and rivets aren’t needed and this method is compatible with almost any thermoplastic.
